Luderitz draws to a closeThe 2008 Luderitz Speed Challenge was nothing less than spectacular. With months of preparations getting the strip ready, it was all worth while as every session delivered results as new records kept being set.History was made when Sebastien Cattelan became the first sailor to break the 50 knot barrier. But the racing continued with faster times being recorded with every run. South Africa's Taro Niehaus set a new South Africa and Africa outright record of 48.47 knots...CONGRATULATIONS... Other records broken today: Rolf van der Vlugt re-broke the Dutch outright record with 46.72 knots. Charlotte Consorti rebroke the outright French women’s record with her run of 44.74 knots. Katja Roose rebroke her Dutch outright women’s record with 39.58knots and there is still even more wind predicted for tomorrow... Accompanied by several high 49 knots runs from himself, Alexandre Caizergues and Jerome Bila (all France) he was the only sailor finally getting to 50.26 knots.Special attendance was paid to the required water depth, and the organizer in cooperation with the WSSRC commissioner present clearly ensured that the rule was strictly applied.
