The 2008 Luderitz Speed Challenge was nothing less than spectacular. With months of preparations getting the strip ready, it was all worth while as every session delivered results as new records kept being set.

Another Good Day at Luderitz...

Alexander Caizergues(FRA) record of 50.57 knots still stands as both Rob Douglas(USA) and Sebastien Cattelan(FRA) came extremely close with runs of 50.54 and 50.52 knots respectively...

From wondering if someone would break the “50 knot barrier” at the Lüderitz Speed Challenge 2008, we now how three sailors well clear of it, and all separated by a mere 0.05 knots...

South Africa's Taro Niehaus set a new South Africa and Africa outright record of 48.47 knots...CONGRATULATIONS...

Other records broken today:

Rolf van der Vlugt re-broke the Dutch outright record with 46.72 knots.
Charlotte Consorti rebroke the outright French women’s record with her run of 44.74 knots.
Katja Roose rebroke her Dutch outright women’s record with 39.58knots

and there is still even more wind predicted for tomorrow... GUST will keep you posted....

NEW WORLD RECORD

Subject to WSSRC ratification, Sebastien Cattelan (FRA) has finally broken the magical 50 knots barrier, the holy gral of speed sailing. Accompanied by several high 49 knots runs from himself, Alexandre Caizergues and Jerome Bila (all France) he was the only sailor finally getting to 50.26 knots.

Special attendance was paid to the required water depth, and the organizer in cooperation with the WSSRC commissioner present clearly ensured that the rule was strictly applied.
