The Resolution Downwind Dash is gearing up for an epic weekend for the 5th, 6th and 7th Feb 2010. The race was previously postponed due to insufficient wind, and the participants, sponsors and organizers are looking forward to hosting the 25th anniversary of this 20km race in two weeks time. Given the long distance of the race, it is essential that a minimum of 12kt wind to be blowing at each mark on the course. In the 24 years that the event has run, it has only been postponed to the holdover date 3 times.
Langebaan is a mecca for kitesurfing with it’s warm waters, easy access to the water and kms of flat water perfect for learning or progression in freestyle moves. This will be a perfect opportunity for any beginner to get a taste of the exhilarating thrill of kiting.
Regardless of wind, the parties, braais and line ups will happen in full force, kicking off with the Lagoon Sports gathering on the evening of the 5th February.
If the wind conditions are considered too strong for a safe dash, the SBSC will host a slalom event off Langebaan main beach. If the SBSC thinks that the wind is marginal over the course, but strong enough to sail, they will organize an expression session or an alternative fun event in Langebaan.
In the event of there being no wind, all registered participants will be invited to take part in an SUP dash which will be a relay race between the kiters and the windsurfers, amongst other exciting beach games.
The traditional prize giving and fish braai will take place on the night of the 6th Feb with a live performance from Nungarin, renowned Cape Town DJ and Ruben Lenten on the decks. All friends and family will be welcome to join in the festivities and there will be prizes awarded for all fun activities, best dressed and youngest contestant etc over the course of Saturday.
