Given the forecast and consultation with various local weather experts, the status of the predicted wind for Saturday 23rd Jan is not convincing enough to make a final decision with regards to the execution of the race. In order for the event to take place there needs to be an average wind speed no less than 12kts both at the start in Langebaan and at the finish in Saldanha.
In the event of the weather forecast worsening by tomorrow, the event will be postponed until the holdover weekend, the 6th/7th Feb. All the associated gatherings, pre-registration, braais and live entertainment will be postponed, along with the race.
However, we are optimitsic about the potential improvement in the wind speed, given the gale force wind we are experiencing in Cape Town at the moment. A final call will be made on the 22nd Jan at 12:00.
I think its really silly that you guys are trying so hard to hold the event even though its 99% sure that the wind is going to be the wrong direction and below 12 knots. The call was suppose to be made today, not tomorrow. People dont live on Langebaan - so they need to rent house / cancel etc. Now the process has just been made more complicated…. think of your competitors / readers / entrants before you own $$$ roll.

Oh well, the way the wind is blowing at the moment i cannot see a problem, but I guess you need the wind earlier in the day.
